This project combines the existing public toilet on Bürkliplatz in Zurich with a self-sustaining flower store while retaining the architectural character of the building.
The project imagines a symbiotic relationship between the two, which is dictated by the flows of water.
An intricate water system connects Bürkliplatz, the toilet and the flower store. The first floor between toilet and store is used as the engine for the whole system.
The water gets separated, cleaned and redistributed depending on its status.
A hydroponic system facilitates the growth of flowers in the store itself, making the shop fully autonomous.
The remaining water is given back to Bürkliplatz to close the circle.
